The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) is a global standard that promotes revenue transparency and accountability in the extractive sector. Each implementing country creates its own EITI process adapted to the specific needs of the country, based on its strategic natural resources and their use.

The Seychelles Multi-Stakeholder Group (MSG) needed to develop a thorough understanding of how EITI can help the country develop a framework for transparency requirement. The present project has the goal of enable the Seychelles EITI MSG and stakeholders develop an excellent understanding of the technical aspects of the new EITI standard but also to support the government’s effort to create a platform of knowledge on the EI, which would help strengthen the voice and the role of the various sector stakeholders in the Seychelles EITI process.

Services provided:

To achieve the goal described above, several training and workshops were held during two weeks between 23 November 2015 and 2 December 2015 in Seychelles. The audience of this event included parliamentarians, government officials, journalists and members of the Seychelles Petroleum Multi-Stakeholder Group. The topics of the training programme are the following:

  • Extractive industries basics
  • Extractive industries and development
  • Resource Governance principles. Use and distribution of extractive industries revenues
  • The Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (EITI) and Advocacy
  • Social and environmental aspects of the extractive industries
